NKB's 'Shop Girl' Hits the Track!
December 18 2010

NKB's very own Shop Girl is hitting the track for the first time Nov. 19th- and Yes she is stoked! Ok enough of talking about myself in the 3rd person- I have been saving my pennies and picking up used gear (Thank you Peter for the great deal on the used suit- oh and thanks for being the same size as me :) and I am just about ready to roll out to Big Willow for my very first track day. Yay! I have been to the track before- as a spectator at Laguna Seca MotoGP- and most recently made my rounds as an umbrella girl for our very favorite motorcycle painter and AMA Racer David Tovar of SBK Paint. I have been learning all about safety wires and Cool-Aid- (not the kind you drink) and been glued to my copies of Twist of the Wrist I & II. So far I'm feeling pretty good- a little nervousness mixed with my usual excitability has made for some interesting few weeks of preparation. Although I have never been married I would have to compare this feeling to a nervous bride trying on her wedding dress only days before her wedding. It's likely we would be sharing similar thoughts like, "what am I getting myself into?","This is going to be the best day of my life!" and "I hope I have enough gas." Ok maybe not that last thought- but I am definitely counting down the days in anticipation. I will be riding up at Big Willow with Shane Harris from Cycle Pirates, his fiancé Kit and David Tovar. All of which I am grateful are much more experienced than I, and have been gracious enough to share their knowledge and some excitement for me. One thing I have learned in my visits to the track, and especially working in a small shop, is that there is a deep camaraderie amongst riders- and that is treble for track riders and racers. These guys have stepped up to help me out by pooling together to get me used gear, borrowed body work (*shiny side up, shiny side up*), and even pep talks when the giddiness of the nerves take over. So I defiantly owe a big Thank You to Shane, David, Peter, and especially Kevin (for the day-off, and everything else you do for me! ) Check back soon for the pre-track check list I will post with pictures as I go over my bike before loading on the trailer for its Big Willow track début!
